FITASC Sporting - struggling with the long crosser on stand 3
Been shooting FITASC for a couple seasons now, but that long left-to-right crosser on stand 3 at our local layout keeps wrecking my score. I'm shooting a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon with a Modified choke, using 1-1/8 oz of #8 shot at 1200 fps. I feel like I'm leading it enough, but I'm consistently breaking them behind. Is it just a matter of more lead, or is there a technique thing I'm missing?

That's a classic FITASC bird - I've been there. With a Modified choke and #8s, your pattern's fine for that distance (should be around 35-40 yards). The trick with those long crossers isn't just more lead, it's maintaining your swing speed. A lot of shooters slow down as they pull the trigger. Try focusing on keeping your feet planted, starting your swing well before the bird, and really accelerating through the shot. Some guys even practice with a slightly faster shell, like a 1300 fps load, just to get used to the timing. What's your foot position like when you're set up for that station?
