NSCA registered shoot - what's the deal with squad etiquette for new shooters?
I've been shooting NSCA for about 2 years now, mostly local stuff, but I'm planning to shoot my first registered event next month. I've got a Beretta A400 Xcel with a 30" barrel, usually run IC and LM chokes with 1-1/8oz #8s at 1200fps. I'm comfortable with the targets, but I'm nervous about messing up squad etiquette - like when to call for the bird, scorekeeping properly, that kind of thing. Don't want to be 'that guy' on my first big shoot.

Hey, first off - congrats on stepping up to registered shoots! Honestly, most squads are super welcoming to new shooters. The big things: always wait for the shooter to call "pull" before you load your gun, keep score clearly on the card (circle misses, X for hits), and if you're unsure about a target, ask the trapper for a re-show before you shoot. Most NSCA squads I've been on will walk you through it if you just say "hey, this is my first registered shoot." What club are you shooting at? Some have slightly different local customs.
