Anyone else find their pattern gets too tight with a full choke on 40-yard crossing targets?

Been shooting sporting clays for years, mostly with my Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon. Lately at my club, I've been struggling with the long crossing targets on stations 7 and 8, which are around 40 yards out. I'm using a full choke with 1-1/8 oz of #7.5 shot, but I feel like I'm getting too few pellets in the pattern at that distance, even when my lead feels right.

I've had the same issue, especially with those specific stations. A full choke can actually be too tight for consistent breaks on crossing targets at 40 yards - it leaves very little margin for error. Try switching to an improved modified choke and maybe bump up to #8 shot. The slightly more open pattern and extra pellets give you a better chance of catching the edge of the target. What's your typical velocity with those loads?
