Anyone else notice Federal's new Gold Medal Grand shells patterning tighter than expected?

Been shooting sporting clays for years, mostly with my Browning Citori 725 with an Improved Cylinder choke. Picked up a case of Federal's new Gold Medal Grand 1-1/8oz #8 shot at 1200fps for practice. At 30 yards, my patterns are noticeably denser than with my usual Remington STS loads - almost like I'm using a Modified choke instead. Wondering if it's the wad design or something in their new hull.

Yeah, I've seen the same thing with those new Gold Medal Grand shells. Federal changed their wad design this year - it's got a longer petal configuration that seems to hold the shot column together longer before opening up. I've been getting Modified-like patterns with my Skeet tube in my Beretta 686. Try dropping down to a Skeet choke if you want your normal spread, or just enjoy the extra reach on those long crossers. What distance were you shooting when you noticed the difference?
