Just bought my first shotgun - what should I do next?

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to shooting and just picked up a used Beretta A300 Outlander 12-gauge. I've been to the range once with a friend who showed me the basics, but now I'm on my own. What should I focus on first? I'm not sure if I should jump right into trap shooting or work on fundamentals at the pattern board.

Welcome to the sport! That A300 is a great starter gun - reliable and soft-shooting. I'd recommend starting at the pattern board with some light target loads (Federal Top Gun 7/8 oz #8 shot works well). See how your gun patterns at 20 and 30 yards with different chokes. Once you're comfortable with your mount and seeing where the shot goes, try some trap from the 16-yard line. Don't worry about scores at first - just focus on consistent mount and follow-through. What choke are you running in that A300?
