Just bought my first shotgun - what's a good all-around choke for trap and sporting clays?

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to shotgun sports and just picked up a used Beretta A300 Outlander 12 gauge. I've been to the range a couple times with friends and want to start shooting trap and maybe some sporting clays. The gun came with a few chokes but I'm confused about which one to use most of the time. Should I just stick with the modified choke that came installed?

Welcome to the sport! That A300 is a great starter gun - I've had mine for years. For trap, I'd recommend starting with a modified choke, especially from the 16-yard line. For sporting clays where targets can be closer, I usually go with improved cylinder for most stations. Honestly, I'd stick with modified for now until you get more comfortable - it's a good middle ground that'll break targets out to about 35 yards. What distances are you typically shooting at your local range?
