Just bought my first shotgun - what should I do next?
Hey everyone, I'm brand new to shooting and just picked up a used Remington 870 Express 12-gauge. Got it for a good deal at my local shop. I've never owned a gun before and want to make sure I'm doing things right. What should my first steps be after bringing it home?

Congrats on the 870 - that's a solid first shotgun! First thing I'd do is give it a good cleaning even if the seller said it was clean. Get some Hoppe's No. 9 solvent and a basic cleaning kit. Watch a YouTube video on disassembling the 870 - it's pretty straightforward. Once it's clean, take it to a range with some light target loads (like Federal Top Gun 7/8 oz at 1200 fps) and just get comfortable handling it. Don't worry about hitting targets yet - just focus on safe handling and getting used to the recoil. What choke tube came with it?
