Just bought my first shotgun - what should I do next?
Hey everyone, I'm brand new to shooting and just picked up a used Remington 870 Express 12-gauge. It came with a modified choke installed. I've never shot a shotgun before and want to start clay shooting with some friends. What should my first steps be before I even think about hitting the range?

Welcome to the sport! Great choice with the 870 - that was my first gun too and it'll serve you well. First thing: find a local club with beginner instruction. Most have 'learn to shoot' days where they'll teach you proper stance, mounting, and safety. Start with light target loads like Federal Top Gun 7/8 oz #8 shot at 1200 fps - they're soft shooting and perfect for clays. Get comfortable with the mechanics before worrying about hitting targets. What part of the country are you in? I might be able to recommend a good club nearby.
