Just bought my first shotgun - what's a good practice routine?

I picked up a used Beretta A300 Outlander 12-gauge last week and shot my first round of sporting clays over the weekend. I had a blast but only broke about 30% of the targets. I'm using a modified choke and Federal Top Gun 7.5 shot. What should I focus on to improve?

Welcome to the sport! Starting with an A300 is a solid choice - they're great guns. For practice, I'd suggest focusing on your mount and follow-through first. Dry fire practice at home helps build muscle memory. When you're at the range, try shooting just stations 1-4 repeatedly with your modified choke - those mid-range targets will help you learn lead. What distance were you struggling with most? Sometimes switching to an improved cylinder choke for closer stations helps beginners.
