Just bought my first shotgun - what's a good practice routine for a total beginner?
I picked up a used Remington 870 12-gauge with a modified choke. I've been to the range twice and can hit maybe 3 out of 10 clays at 25 yards with Federal Top Gun 7.5 shot. Feeling pretty overwhelmed and not sure what to focus on first - stance, mount, or just blasting away?

Welcome to the sport! That 870 is a solid starter gun - I learned on one too. Honestly, skip the 'blasting away' approach. Start with just mounting the gun to your shoulder consistently without looking at the sights - do it dry at home until it feels natural. When you're at the range, ask someone to throw straight-away targets only at first, and focus on keeping your head down on the stock. What's your current stance like - are you leaning into the gun or standing straight up?
