Anyone else find their pattern gets too tight with a full choke on 16-yard station 7 crossers?

Been shooting a Browning Citori 725 with a full choke in the bottom barrel for station 7 at my local club. Using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8 oz #8 shot. At 16 yards, I'm breaking targets but noticing the pattern seems overly dense - sometimes just a few pellets hit, and I feel like I'm missing the margin for error. Tried a modified choke and it felt better, but I'm curious if others experience this.

Yeah, I've seen that happen. A full choke at 16 yards is overkill for most crossers - you're right about losing that margin for error. For station 7, I usually run an improved cylinder or light modified in my Beretta 686. The Federal #8s you're using are fine, but with a more open choke you'll get a better spread that's more forgiving on your lead. Have you tried patterning both chokes at that distance to see the actual difference? Might give you more confidence in switching.
