Anyone else notice their pattern opening up with 1-1/8 oz loads vs 1 oz in their 12ga?

Been shooting my Beretta A400 Xcel for a few years now, mostly 1 oz #8 at 1200 fps for sporting clays. Tried some Federal Top Gun 1-1/8 oz #8 at 1300 fps last weekend and my break percentage dropped noticeably, especially on longer crossers. Using the same Modified choke I always use. Wondering if it's just me or if others have seen this.

Yeah, that's actually pretty common. The heavier payload at higher velocity can sometimes cause more pellet deformation, which opens patterns. With that setup, you might try tightening up to an Improved Modified or even Full for those 1-1/8 oz loads, especially on 35+ yard targets. I've had good luck with Fiocchi Golden Pheasant 1-1/8 oz #7.5 through my Browning Citori - seems to hold together better. What distance were you seeing the most trouble at?
