Anyone else find their pattern gets a little 'blown out' with 1 1/8 oz loads in a tight choke?

Been shooting a Browning Citori 725 with a full choke in the bottom barrel for sporting clays. I've been running Federal Gold Medal Grand 1 1/8 oz #8 shot at 1200 fps. On longer crossers past 40 yards, I feel like I'm getting more holes in the pattern than I should. My hits are there, but it feels less dense than with 1 oz loads. Just me?

Yeah, I've seen that happen. A full choke with a heavy payload of #8s at that velocity can sometimes stress the pattern a bit, especially if it's a newer, tighter full choke. You might try dropping to a 1 oz load of #8s at a similar speed, or even a 1 1/8 oz of #7.5s. The slightly larger shot holds the pattern together better at distance. Have you patterned it on paper at 40 yards to see what it actually looks like?
