Can't hit crossing targets consistently - what am I doing wrong?

I'm brand new to sporting clays and really struggling with crossing targets, especially station 3 at my local club. I'm shooting a Beretta A300 with a modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 7.5 shot at about 25 yards. I see the bird, mount the gun, but I'm always behind it. Tried swinging faster but then I jerk the trigger.

Hey there, welcome to the sport! That's a classic beginner issue - I did the exact same thing when I started. You're probably 'measuring' the lead instead of just reacting to the target. Try this: keep both eyes open, focus ONLY on the clay, and let your hands follow it naturally. Don't think about where to put the bead - just swing through the bird and pull the trigger when it feels right. The modified choke is fine for that distance, but maybe try some 8 shot for a denser pattern. What's your foot position like on those crossing shots?
