Anyone else think Pilla's 'High Definition' lenses are overhyped for sporting clays?
Been shooting a Beretta 694 with a Muller U2 choke for sporting clays for a few years now. I've been using Randolph Rangers with the brown lens for everything and they've been great. Tried a buddy's Pilla glasses with the 'High Definition' yellow lens on a bright, overcast day and honestly... I didn't see what the huge fuss was about. The targets didn't look any more 'crisp' to me than with my Randolphs, and for $400+ I expected a revelation. Am I missing something, or is it just marketing?

I had a similar experience when I first tried them. I think a lot of the 'High Definition' benefit is super subtle and you really have to use them for a full round or two to adjust. For me, the big difference wasn't on bright days, but in those tricky low-light, late afternoon situations or in deep woods stations. The Pilla lens seemed to gather more light without washing out the target. That said, if your Randolphs are working for you across all your local courses and light conditions, there's no magic bullet in a lens. It might just not be worth the switch for your game. What specific stations or target presentations were you shooting when you tried them?
