Anyone else find Peltor SportTacs great for hunting but not quite enough for the range?
I've been using Peltor SportTac electronic muffs for years in the duck blind and they're fantastic - the sound amplification is a game-changer. But lately I've been shooting more sporting clays, and after a 100-round practice session with my Beretta 686, my ears are ringing a bit even with the muffs on max. I'm shooting mostly 1-1/8 oz of #8 at 1200 fps. Wondering if I need to step up to something with a higher NRR or maybe double up.

Yeah, I had the exact same experience. The SportTacs have a 21 NRR, which is fine for intermittent shots in the field, but it gets overwhelmed by the constant barrage at the range, especially under a covered shooting station. What worked for me was getting a pair of Walker's Razor Slim electronic muffs (they have a 23 NRR) and pairing them with some cheap foam earplugs underneath. You still get the electronic hearing for squad chatter, but the combined protection knocks it down to a safe level. Have you tried any of the passive over-ear options like the Howard Leight Impact Sports? They're a solid budget choice if you don't need the electronics.
