Looking for a 1-1/8 oz 12ga load that patterns tighter than my current setup

Been shooting a Beretta A400 Xcel with a Modified choke (0.020") at 40 yards for sporting clays. My go-to reload is a once-fired STS hull, 18.0 gr of Alliant Extra-Lite, WAA12 wad, and #8 lead. Patterns are decent but I'm getting more flyers than I'd like on long crossers. Anyone have a proven recipe that tightens things up without going to a heavier payload?

I had a similar issue with my Browning Citori. Try switching to a WAA12SL wad instead of the standard WAA12 - it's designed for 1-1/8 oz loads and seems to seal better in the STS hull. Also, bumping up to 18.5 gr of Extra-Lite gave me a more consistent burn. That combo with #8s tightened my 40-yard patterns by about 5% in my Modified choke. What's your current shot size - are you using hard #8s or something softer?
