Trying to fine-tune my 1-1/8 oz reloads for sporting clays - getting inconsistent breaks at 40 yards
I've been working up a load for my Browning Citori 725 with a Modified choke, using once-fired STS hulls, Claybuster WAA12 wads, and 18.0 grains of Alliant Extra-Lite. I'm getting good patterns at 30 yards, but at 40 yards on true pairs or report pairs, I'm seeing more dust than solid breaks. Anyone else run into this with lighter target loads?

I've had that exact issue before. Extra-Lite is great for recoil reduction, but sometimes it doesn't have enough oomph to keep the shot column tight at longer distances. Try bumping up to 19.0 grains of International or even 20.0 grains of Green Dot - both seem to give me better pattern density at 40 yards with that same 1-1/8 oz payload. What shot size are you running? Switching from #8 to #7.5 might help too if you're not already using them.
