Trying to fine-tune my 1-1/8 oz reloads for sporting clays - getting inconsistent breaks at 40+ yards
Been working up a load for my Browning Citori 725 with an IM choke using once-fired STS hulls, WAA12 wads, and 18.0 grains of Alliant Extra-Lite. Patterns look decent on paper at 30 yards, but I'm seeing more dust than solid breaks on long crossers at station 8. Anyone else run into this with light powder charges?

I've had similar issues with Extra-Lite in the past - it's a great powder for 1 oz loads but can struggle to maintain consistent velocity with heavier shot charges at longer ranges. Try bumping up to 19.0 grains or switching to Alliant 20/28, which seems to pattern better with 1-1/8 oz. Also, check your crimp depth - too shallow can cause velocity variations. What shot size are you running? Might need to drop from 8s to 7.5s for those 40-yard birds.
