Looking for a 1-1/8 oz 12ga target load that's softer than my current recipe
Been running a 1-1/8 oz load with 18.0 grains of Alliant Extra-Lite, a WAA12 wad, and a Federal 209A primer in once-fired STS hulls through my MEC 650. It patterns great in my Browning Citori with an Improved Modified choke, but after a few hundred rounds my shoulder is feeling it. I'm shooting sporting clays, mostly stations 3-7. Anyone have a recipe that keeps good velocity (around 1200 fps) but with less kick?

I hear you on that. Extra-Lite can be a bit snappy even at moderate charges. You might try switching to a slower powder like Hodgdon Clays. I run 17.5 grains of Clays with the same components you listed, and it meters really well, gives me about 1180 fps, and the recoil impulse is much more of a push than a punch. Still breaks targets cleanly at those mid-range stations. Have you chronographed your current load to see what you're actually getting?
