Looking for a 1 oz. 12ga load that patterns tight at 40 yards for sporting clays
I've been working up some loads for my Browning Citori with a Modified choke for the longer stations. Using once-fired STS hulls, Claybuster WAA12SL wads, and Alliant Extra-Lite powder. I'm getting decent patterns at 30 yards but they're opening up too much at 40. Anyone have a proven recipe that holds together better at distance?

I've had good luck with that same hull and wad combo using 18.0 grains of Extra-Lite under 1 oz of #8 lead shot. That gives me about 1200 fps. The key for me was switching to a tighter choke - I use an Improved Modified for anything past 35 yards. Have you tried a tighter constriction, or are you set on sticking with Modified? Sometimes that extra 5-10 thousandths makes all the difference on those long crossers.
