Looking for a soft-shooting 1 oz target load that patterns well in my tight-choked O/U
I've been shooting a Browning Citori CX with Briley extended chokes (LM in bottom, IM in top) for sporting clays. Been using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8 oz loads, but they're a bit punchy for 200+ targets. Tried some 7/8 oz reloads with Red Dot, but patterns got spotty past 35 yards. Anyone have a good 1 oz recipe that's gentle on the shoulder but still holds together?

I run a similar setup with a Beretta 686 and have had great luck with 1 oz loads using Alliant Extra-Lite powder. Try 18.0 grains with a Claybuster CB1078-12 wad, Winchester AA hull, and a CCI 209 primer. That gives me about 1150 fps - soft shooting, and it patterns really well through my IM choke out to 40 yards. The key is the wad column height; make sure you're getting good crimp closure. What shot size are you using for those longer targets?
