Trying to fine-tune my 1-1/8oz reloads for sporting clays - getting inconsistent breaks at 40 yards

I've been working up some 12ga reloads for my Browning Citori with 30" barrels and Briley extended chokes (LM/Mod). Using once-fired STS hulls, WAA12SL wads, 18.5gr of Alliant Extra-Lite, and #8 lead shot. At 40 yards on true pairs, I'm getting some targets that just puff instead of shattering cleanly. My velocities are averaging around 1200fps. Anyone else run into this with Extra-Lite?

I've had that exact issue with Extra-Lite when pushing 1-1/8oz loads. That powder really prefers 1oz payloads - you're probably getting some pellet deformation with the heavier shot charge. Try dropping to 1oz of #8s or switch to a slightly slower powder like International for the 1-1/8oz loads. Also check your crimp depth - if it's too deep, it can affect pattern consistency. What's your crimp look like on these loads?
