Beretta A400 Xcel Sporting vs Browning Maxus Sporting for sporting clays?
I've been shooting a Browning Citori for about 2 years and want to try a semi-auto for sporting clays. I'm looking at the Beretta A400 Xcel Sporting and Browning Maxus Sporting. Both feel good in the store, but I'm wondering about reliability with lighter target loads and felt recoil difference on a long day of shooting. My typical load is 1oz of #8 at 1200fps.

I've owned both - shot the Maxus for 3 years before switching to an A400 Xcel. Both are excellent guns, but here's my take: The A400's kick-off system really does reduce felt recoil by about 40-50%, which makes a difference after 100+ targets. Both will cycle 1oz loads fine, but the A400 seems a bit more forgiving with dirty ammo. The Maxus has a slightly faster cycling speed if that matters to you. Have you had a chance to shoot either one yet, or just shoulder them in the shop?
