Just got my first shotgun - a used Browning Citori 12ga. What should I check before taking it to the range?

I'm brand new to shooting and just picked up a used Browning Citori 12 gauge from a local shop. It's my first shotgun ever and I want to make sure it's safe to shoot. The action seems tight and the wood looks good, but I don't really know what to look for.

Great first gun choice! For a used O/U, I'd start by checking the barrel locking lugs for any excessive wear - look for deep grooves or shiny spots where the metal's worn down. Make sure the action opens and closes smoothly without any binding. Also check the firing pins by dry firing (with snap caps!) to see if they're protruding evenly. Take it to a gunsmith if you're unsure - $50 for a safety check is cheap insurance. What's the barrel length on your Citori?
