Just bought my first shotgun - a used Browning Citori - and the stock feels too long

I'm brand new to sporting clays and picked up a used Browning Citori 12 gauge for a good deal. I'm 5'8" and when I mount it, I feel like I'm really stretching to get my cheek down on the stock. I'm hitting maybe 2 out of 5 targets. Is this normal for a beginner, or is the gun just not fitting me right?

Congrats on the Citori, that's a solid first gun! What you're describing is classic 'stock too long' for your build. At 5'8", a standard 14.5" length of pull (LOP) on that Citori is probably an inch or more too long for you. That's why you're struggling to get consistent cheek weld and missing targets. I'd take it to a local gunsmith and have them measure you for proper LOP - they can usually cut the stock down and add a recoil pad for under $100. Makes a world of difference. What's your wingspan measurement, roughly?
