My GSP is creeping on planted birds - how to fix steadiness without breaking drive?

My 3-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer has solid pointing instincts but keeps creeping in on planted quail during training. I've tried check-cord corrections and whoa training, but he still takes a step or two once he's on point. We're using a Tri-Tronics e-collar on low stim. He's got great drive and I don't want to kill that while fixing this steadiness issue.

Been there with my own GSP. What worked for me was combining the e-collar with a remote bird launcher - the moment he creeps, pop the bird and give a low-level stim. He'll learn that movement makes the bird disappear. Keep sessions short and end on a solid point. Also, are you using the same training birds every time? Sometimes switching to pigeons or chukars can help if he's getting wise to your quail setup.
