Just got my first bird dog - a 6 month old Lab. Where do I even start with training?
I'm brand new to both hunting and having a bird dog. Picked up a yellow Lab pup from a good breeder, and I want to train him right for duck hunting. So far we've just done basic obedience like sit and come. I've got a Browning Citori 12 gauge and usually shoot Federal Black Cloud 3" #2s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the training advice out there!

First off, congrats on the new pup! Don't stress about being overwhelmed - we've all been there. At 6 months, focus on building a solid foundation: work on obedience in distracting environments, introduce him to water gradually, and get him comfortable with gunfire starting with a .22 blank pistol at a distance. Force fetch can wait until he's older and more mature. What's his temperament like - is he bold or more cautious around new things? That'll help determine your training pace.
