My GSP is breaking point too early on pheasants

I've been working with my 2-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer on wild pheasants in South Dakota. He's solid on quail and chukar, but when he gets birdy on pheasants, he creeps in and breaks point at about 15 yards instead of holding steady. I'm using a Tri-Tronics Pro 500 e-collar on low stimulation just to reinforce whoa commands in the yard. My setup is a Beretta A400 Xtreme with IC choke shooting Federal Prairie Storm #5s.

That's a classic GSP problem with running pheasants - those birds just have a different scent cone and pressure pattern. What worked for me was using a check cord and planted birds to simulate that exact scenario. Have your training partner flush the bird when your dog creeps past your comfort zone, then gently correct back to the original point. Keep the e-collar on tone-only for these sessions until he understands what you want. How's his obedience on whoa when you're not in the field?
