My GSP is creeping on birds after the point - how to fix?

My 3-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer locks up solid on scent, but after about 10 seconds he'll start creeping forward before I can flush. I've tried the check cord and 'whoa' training, but he still does it when he gets really birdy. We're hunting pheasants over my Beretta A400 with Improved Cylinder choke.

That creeping is frustrating - my old English Pointer did the same thing. What worked for me was using a remote trainer on the lowest stim setting right when he'd start to move. Just a quick tap as he begins to creep, paired with a firm 'whoa.' Also, make sure you're getting to him quickly to flush once he's solid - if he learns you'll get there fast, he'll wait. Have you tried planting pigeons or quail to practice this specific scenario?
