My GSP is breaking at flush on pheasants - tried everything but e-collar
My 4-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer has been steady to wing and shot on quail for two seasons, but this fall on wild roosters he's breaking hard at the flush. We've worked on whoa training with a check cord, used a blank pistol during training, and I've been consistent with corrections. He's hunting over a Beretta A400 with Federal Premium 3" #5s at 1450 fps. Anyone else run into this with versatile breeds on bigger birds?

Been there with my Vizsla on pheasants - those wild flushes are a whole different game. What worked for me was introducing a remote trainer (I use a Dogtra 280C) set to the lowest stim level, just to reinforce the whoa command at the exact moment of flush. Start in a controlled environment with planted birds before hitting wild covers. Also, try switching to a heavier load like 3.5" #4s - the louder report seems to help some dogs remember their manners. How's his retrieve on those roosters once he's steady?
