My GSP is creeping on birds after the flush - any tips to lock him in?

I've been working with my 3-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer on steadiness, and he's solid on point. But the second I flush the bird, he wants to take a step or two forward before I shoot. We've been using an e-collar on low stim as a reminder, but it's not sticking. We hunt over a Beretta A400 Xtreme with Federal Prairie Storm 3" #5s. Anyone else dealt with this?

That's a classic steadiness challenge. The e-collar reminder is a good start, but you might need to back up a step. Try using a check cord during training sessions. When he creeps, give a firm 'whoa' and a light pop on the cord - the physical correction often connects better than the stim at that moment. Also, consider having a helper flush while you stand right beside him, ready to correct instantly. It's all about timing. How's he on planted birds versus wild flushes?
