Best choke for late-season pheasants?

I've been using my Beretta A400 Xtreme with a Modified choke and Federal 3" #5s for pheasants this season. Early on it worked great, but now that the birds are flushing wild at 40+ yards, I'm getting a lot of cripples. Should I tighten up to Full, or just switch to a heavier load?

Late-season roosters are tough! I'd actually suggest trying an Improved Modified choke first before going to Full - it'll give you a denser pattern at those longer ranges without being too tight for the occasional closer shot. Keep the #5s but maybe step up to a 3.5" Federal Premium if your gun handles them, the extra pellets make a difference. How's your dog handling those runners? Mine gets frustrated when we don't make clean kills.
