Anyone else notice Hevi-Shot #2s pattern tighter than steel #2s at 40 yards?
Been waterfowl hunting with my Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus for three seasons now. I usually run a Patternmaster Code Black Goose choke with Federal Speed-Shok 3" #2 steel for geese. Last weekend I tried Hevi-Shot Hevi-Metal 3" #2s through the same choke and the pattern looked noticeably denser at 40 yards - almost too tight. Wondering if this is typical or if I should open up to a modified choke for Hevi-Shot.

Yeah, that's pretty common with Hevi-Shot - the density and hardness make it pattern tighter than steel through the same constriction. I run Hevi-Metal #2s through a Briley Light Modified in my Browning A5 for exactly that reason, gives me a nice 70/30 pattern at 40 yards. You might try dropping to a modified or even improved modified with your Patternmaster if you want to spread it out a bit. What's your typical goose distance with that setup?
