Anyone else notice a difference in pattern density between Federal and Boss bismuth for late-season geese?

Been using Federal 3" #2 bismuth for years on geese with my Browning A5 and a Carlson's Long Range XR choke. Patterns great at 40 yards. Tried Boss #2 bismuth this season and while the velocity feels great, my pattern board at 40 yards looks a bit thinner in the core. Same choke, same yardage. Just curious if others have seen this or if it's just my particular lot/batch.

Yeah, I've seen that too with my Beretta A400. I think it comes down to Boss using a harder bismuth alloy and their unique shot cup design - it seems to keep the shot string tighter but can sacrifice some pattern density at the outer edges of your effective range. For those late-season, high-flying honkers, I'd stick with your Federal load since you know it works. Maybe try Boss in a #1 size if you want to give it another shot? What's your typical late-season shot distance?
