Looking for a good all-around upland load for pheasant and grouse

I've been using Federal Premium 2¾" #6 shot for pheasant with my Beretta A400 Xcel (IC choke) and it works okay, but I feel like I'm missing some longer shots past 30 yards. I hunt both pheasant and grouse in the same day sometimes. Should I switch to #5 shot or just tighten up my choke?

I'd stick with #6 shot but try a Modified choke instead of IC. That Federal load you're using is solid - I've taken plenty of pheasants with it at 35-40 yards with a Modified tube. For grouse, you might want to open back up to IC since they're closer shots. Another option: try Winchester Super-X #5 shot with your IC choke for those longer pheasant opportunities. What's your typical pheasant range where you hunt?
