Anyone else find Hevi-Shot #2s pattern too tight for late-season geese?
Been using Hevi-Shot 3.5" #2s in my Browning A5 for late-season honkers over decoys at 25-35 yards. My full choke is putting 90%+ of the pellets in a 20" circle at 40 yards, which seems too dense. I'm getting clean kills but also some pellet damage on closer birds. Wondering if I should switch to #4s or open up the choke.

Yeah, I've seen that with Hevi-Shot #2s - they're dense enough that they can over-penetrate on closer shots. For decoying geese inside 40 yards, I'd try a modified choke instead of full. That'll open your pattern up to about a 30" circle, which is still plenty lethal with Hevi-Shot's density. If you want to stick with full choke, dropping to #4s would work too - they'll still have the energy for geese at that range. What's your typical shot distance on those late-season birds?
