Looking for advice on a good all-around upland load for my Beretta A400
I've been hunting pheasant and grouse for a couple seasons now with my Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus. I've been using whatever 12ga 2 3/4" #6 shot I can find on sale, but I feel like I'm missing some birds at 30-35 yards that I should be getting. I'm using a Modified choke. Should I switch to a different shot size or maybe a different brand?

Good question - I ran into the same thing when I started. For that A400, I'd stick with Modified choke but try stepping up to #5 shot. Federal Premium Upland or Winchester Super-X in 1 1/4oz #5 will give you better penetration on those longer shots while still having a decent pattern. I've had great results with both on pheasant out to 40 yards. What's your typical shooting distance on those grouse?
