Looking for a good 20ga load for late season pheasants

I've been using my Beretta A400 Xcel with a Modified choke and 1oz of #6 shot for pheasants this season. It's been fine on early season birds, but I'm missing more on the longer, flushing shots we're seeing now. I'm thinking maybe a heavier load or different shot size?

Late season roosters are definitely tougher. For those 35-40 yard shots, I'd try stepping up to a 1 1/8oz load of #5 shot - Federal Premium Prairie Storm or Winchester Super-X both make good options. Keep your Modified choke; it's a good balance. The #5s will carry more energy out there. What's your typical range when you're missing?
