Just started sporting clays and rabbits are destroying me - help!

I'm brand new to sporting clays and keep missing rabbits badly at my local course. I'm shooting a Beretta A300 Outlander with a modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 7.5 shot at 1200 fps. At station 3, the rabbit comes out of the brush and rolls about 25 yards away - I'm either shooting over it or way behind. What am I doing wrong?

Rabbits are tricky for everyone at first! The key is to treat them like a crossing target rather than trying to shoot at the ground. For that 25-yard roller, try mounting your gun with the bead just above the rabbit's back, then swing through like you're leading a crossing bird. Modified choke is fine, but you might want to drop to an improved cylinder for closer rabbits - gives you a wider pattern. Are you keeping your head down on the stock when you shoot? That's usually what causes people to shoot over rolling targets.
