Just started sporting clays and my shoulder is killing me after a round. Am I doing something wrong?

Shot my first 50-target course last weekend with my new Beretta A300 Outlander. Using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 loads at 1200fps. By station 4, my shoulder was getting sore, and today it's pretty bruised. I'm mounting it tight into my shoulder pocket like I've seen on YouTube.

Welcome to the sport! Shoulder soreness is super common for beginners, and it's usually about mount and stance, not just holding the gun tight. Make sure you're leaning slightly forward into the gun - if you're standing straight up or leaning back, the recoil pushes you instead of moving through you. Also, check your gun fit; that A300 is a great starter gun, but if the stock is too long or short, it'll beat you up. What choke are you running? Sometimes a tighter choke than needed makes you flinch. Try some lighter 7/8oz loads next time and focus on smooth swings rather than jamming the gun into your shoulder.
