Struggling with consistency on long crossers at my local sporting clays course

I keep dropping birds on Station 7 at my club - it's that 45-yard crossing teal that starts behind the trees. I'm shooting a Browning Citori 725 with an Improved Modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 shot at 1200fps. I feel like I'm on the bird but still getting dust instead of breaks. Anyone else run into this with similar setups?

That's a tough bird - 45-yard crossers will test any setup. Your IM choke is actually a bit tight for that distance with #8s; you might be getting a thin pattern. I'd try a Light Modified or even Skeet choke to open it up a bit. Also, check your lead - at that distance with a crossing teal, you're probably looking at 8-10 feet of forward allowance. Try focusing on the bird's beak and swinging through rather than trying to intercept it. What's your foot position like on that station?
