Struggling with consistency on long crossers from the high tower

Been shooting sporting clays for about 5 years now, but I keep dropping birds on those long crossers from the high tower station at my local club. They're usually around 40-45 yards out. I'm shooting a Browning Citori 725 with a Modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 shot at 1200fps. I feel like I'm on them, but they just seem to slip through the pattern.

Those high tower crossers are tricky - they're deceptively fast and the angle can mess with your lead perception. With a Modified choke at that distance, you might be getting a pattern that's a bit too open. I'd try stepping up to an Improved Modified or even a Full for that specific station. Also, with #8 shot at 45 yards, you're pushing its effective range. Switching to #7.5s for those long targets will give you better pellet energy and pattern density. What's your lead look like on those birds - are you holding about 4-5 feet out front?
