Struggling with consistency on long crossers at my local course
At my club's sporting clays layout, station 8 has a 45-yard left-to-right crosser that's giving me fits. I'm shooting a Browning 725 with an Improved Modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 loads. I'll break 3-4 in a row then inexplicably miss the next two. Anyone else experience this kind of inconsistency on similar presentations?

I've battled that exact scenario with my Beretta 686. First thing I'd check is your foot position - on long crossers, I've found that opening my stance more toward the target's flight path helps maintain a smoother swing. Also, with that IM choke at 45 yards, you might be getting a slightly tighter pattern than needed; try a Modified or even Light Modified for more margin of error. Are you maintaining your lead through the shot, or stopping your swing when you pull the trigger? That's usually what causes those random misses after a string of hits.
