Struggling with sustained lead on long handicap targets from 27 yards
Been shooting American Trap for a few years, moved back to the 27-yard line last season and my scores dropped. I'm using a Browning Citori CX with a Modified choke, shooting 1-1/8 oz of #8 shot at 1200 fps. I keep shooting behind the birds on the long left and right angles. I've tried a pull-away method but it feels rushed. Anyone have tips for a smoother sustained lead on those tough angles?

I feel your pain - 27-yard angles are a different beast. For sustained lead on those long left/right targets, try focusing on the target's edge rather than the whole clay. With your Modified choke and #8s, you've got a good pattern for distance. On station 3 left angle, I hold about 3 feet in front and maintain that gap all the way through the shot. What helped me most was practicing with a lighter load first - maybe try some 1 oz #8s at 1180 fps to get the timing down before going back to your match loads. Are you keeping your head down on the stock through the entire follow-through?
