Q&A / Trap

Struggling with sustained lead on long handicap targets

Been shooting American Trap for about 5 years, just moved back to the 27-yard line and my scores are dropping. I'm using a Browning Citori with a Modified choke, shooting 1-1/8 oz of #8 shot at 1200 fps. On those really long, straightaway targets, I feel like I'm holding way out there but still missing behind. Anyone else have this issue?

Yeah, that 27-yard line is a different beast. First thing I'd check - are you truly using sustained lead or are you subconsciously stopping the gun? With Modified choke at that distance, your pattern is getting thin. Try a Full choke and see if that gives you a little more margin for error. Also, on straightaways, I've found it helps to focus on the target's bottom edge rather than the whole thing - keeps me from lifting my head. What's your foot position like on those stations?
