Q&A / Trap

Just started American Trap - what choke should I use for the 16-yard line?

Hey everyone, brand new shooter here. I just got a Beretta A300 Outlander and I'm shooting my first few rounds of American Trap from the 16-yard line. I've been using the Modified choke that came with the gun, but I'm not sure if that's right. Shooting Federal Top Gun 7.5 shot at 1,200 fps. Should I stick with Mod or go tighter/looser?

Welcome to the sport! For the 16-yard line in American Trap, Modified is actually a great starting point - that's what I used for years before moving back. Your setup with the A300 and Federal Top Gun 7.5s is solid for beginners. I'd stick with Modified for now and focus on your mount and follow-through; at that distance, pattern density with Mod is plenty. Once you start breaking 20+ consistently, you might experiment with Improved Modified. What's your break percentage looking like so far?
