Q&A / Trap

Struggling with my lead on long handicap targets at 27 yards

Been shooting American Trap for about 2 years and just moved back to the 27-yard line. I'm consistently behind the targets, especially on station 5. Shooting a Beretta A400 Xcel with a Modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 shot. I've tried increasing my lead but it feels like I'm guessing.

That's a classic problem when moving back! At 27 yards, you need a solid 4-5 feet of lead on station 5 targets. Try focusing on the target's front edge and maintaining that lead through your swing - don't stop when you pull the trigger. Your Modified choke is perfect for that distance, but consider trying #7.5 shot for a denser pattern. What's your foot position like on station 5?
