Q&A / Trap

Just started American Trap - how much should I lead these targets?

I'm brand new to trap shooting and just joined a local club. I've been shooting a Beretta A300 Outlander with a Modified choke and Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 loads. I'm consistently shooting behind the targets, especially on station 3. How much lead should I be giving these birds?

Welcome to the sport! For American Trap with that setup, you're looking at about 2-3 feet of lead on station 3. The key is to focus on the target, not your barrel - try to see the space between your bead and the clay. With #8 shot at 1200fps, you've got a good pattern density, so don't overthink it. What's your foot position like on station 3? That can affect your swing.
