Q&A / Trap

Struggling with my lead on left-to-right crossing shots at the 23-yard line

I've been shooting American Trap for about two years and just moved back to the 23-yard line. My Browning Citori 725 with a Modified choke is fine on straightaways and right-to-left, but I'm consistently missing behind on those hard left-to-right crossers from stations 3 and 4. I'm using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8 oz, 7.5 shot at 1200 fps. Feels like I'm swinging through but the breaks are just dust.

That's a classic problem when you first get back on the handicap yardage - those angles really open up. With that load and a Modified choke, you've got a good setup, but you might be underestimating the lead. For a left-to-right at 23 yards, I'd suggest trying a sustained lead of about 4-5 feet instead of swinging through. Focus on getting your muzzle out in front and maintaining that gap before you call pull. Also, check your foot position on those stations - opening up a bit more toward the house can help. What's your foot placement like on station 3?
